Kalamkari Suits, Kurta Sets & Dresses for Women - The Jaipur Studio
When a Print Has a Story, You Feel It the Moment You Wear It
Some outfits you buy. Some you choose because they mean something.
Kalamkari has been around for over 3,000 years - and there is a reason it has never really gone out of style. The motifs, the earthy tones, the hand-drawn quality of every print - it is the kind of detail that makes people stop and ask "where did you get that?" before you have even sat down.
At The Jaipur Studio, we have been working with artisans rooted in Jaipur's craft tradition since 1950. Our kalamkari suits and kalamkari kurta sets are not put together for trend. They are made for women who dress with intention - women who want their clothes to say something without saying too much.
If that sounds like you, you are in the right place.
A Little About Kalamkari - Because Context Makes You Appreciate It More
The word "kalamkari" comes from two Hindi words: kalam (pen) and kari (craft). So quite literally, it means art made with a pen. Originating centuries ago in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, traditional kalamkari fabric was hand-painted using natural dyes derived from plants and minerals. Every motif - a peacock, a temple border, a lotus vine - was drawn by hand, one stroke at a time.
Today, the craft exists in both hand-painted and block-printed forms. What has stayed constant is the spirit of it: intricate, intentional, and deeply Indian.
When you wear a kalamkari kurta for women from The Jaipur Studio, you are wearing something that carries that history forward. We work with artisans who know this craft from the inside out, and it shows in the print quality of every single piece.

How to Style Kalamkari Without Overthinking It
For work: A straight-cut kalamkari kurta set in black or indigo with simple studs and kolhapuris. Let the print do its job - it will.
For casual days out: A coord set in red or yellow with flat chappals and a small potli. Add a dupatta if you are in the mood, skip it if you are not.
For festive occasions: Go for a kalamkari suit with a hand-embroidered dupatta. Wine, cream, or classic black work for mehendi ceremonies, pujas, and family get-togethers where you want to look special without being overdressed.
For home days when you still want to feel nice: A lightweight cotton kalamkari kurta with afgani pants. Relaxed but not sloppy. Comfortable but not careless.
Caring for Your Kalamkari - Keep It Looking Good for Years
- Wash in cold water with a gentle detergent
- Do not soak for long - it can fade the print over time
- Skip the wringer; just squeeze gently and hang to dry in shade
- Iron on low heat or lightly steam before wearing
- Treat it well and it will stay vibrant through dozens of washes
